2010 Sales, Prices Up for STAFDA Associates

Associate members of the Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association averaged 15% higher sales in 2010 sale than 2009 and 3% over 2008.
 

Prices increased an average of 7% during 2010.
 

In the biennial STAFDA survey of associate members project 2011 sales will be up 6%.

 

STAFDA-type companies account for 32% sales share vs. 11% for “big box” stores – a statistic nearly identical to the last Associate Survey in 2009.

 

• Associates reported 16% of sales came from outside the U.S.

• 83% of associates import product; 48% produce domestically and 51% produce product overseas.

• Survey participants bar code 83% of products.

• E-mail is the preferred way to communicate with distributors (63%), up from 56% in 2009.

• 87% accept electronic fund transfers and automated clearinghouse payments.

• Price increases: 42% of associates give a two-to-six week advance notice and another 42% give more than six weeks.

• Cash discounts are given by 62% of associates.
