41 Years at SPS: Computers Top Change
John Wolz
Bill Timm has been working for SPS for 41 of the companys 100 years. He lives just two blocks from the Jenkintown, PA, plant. His twin brother also works for SPS. Twenty-five relatives have worked for the company over the years.
Timm has watched a fair number of business cycles over the decades, the peaks and valleys.
What is the biggest change at SPS during his tenure? The computer, Timm replied without hesitation. It has made dramatic change and not just to the office. In the shop computers control machines.
Computers control inventory cycles, packaging, shipping, purchasing and marketing, he observed.
Future improvements really come down to computers, he added.
Timms advice for someone wanting to work for SPS? Get as much education as you can. \ 2003 FastenerNews.com
