John Longyear and Christine Longyear will retire from Metric & Multistandard Components Corp. on April 1, 2019, and Edgar Alfaro will become the Texas branch manager.
John joined MMCC in 1972 at the Hawthorne, NY, headquarters and Chris started in 1974. In 1976 they moved to Texas to open a Southwest office and warehouse with John as branch manager and Chris as assistant manager.
John recalled that when he started with MMCC 47 years ago, “every town had its own distributor.” But in the last 20 years so many have disappeared through acquisition, consolidation, retirement or competition from larger companies, such as Fastenal.
One thing hasn’t changed: Longyear still has his first MMCC catalog and almost every fastener in that 1972 publication “is still in our current catalog,” he told GlobalFastenerNews.com.
Starting in the MMCC warehouse was “the first real job I had after college and the military.”
He found “I could do more” and when asked, “Would you be willing to go to Texas to open a branch?” his answer was a quick, “Yes.”
Both Longyears have been active in the Southwestern Fastener Association since 1984. Both have been SFA chairpersons.
Alfaro has been with MMCC since 1997. Ambra Harris, who has been with MMCC since 1988, will become assistant branch manager.
Messages to the Longyears may be sent to: Metric & Multistandard, 2200 Century Circle, Irving, TX 75062. Tel: 972 870-1017 Email: jlongyear@MetricMCC.com Web: MetricMCC.com
