Fastenal Co. Sales & Workforce Grow

Fastenal Co. reported May sales rose 18.4% to $274.8 million, despite a 0.7% drag on growth due to changes in foreign currencies.
During May manufacturing customer sales grew 13.2%, while non-residential construction customer sales gained 12.2%.

The Winona, MN-based company, said store openings dropped 33% to six during the month, ending with a 2,621-store total. For the first two months of the second quarter its new store openings have fallen 50% to ten for the period. Fastenal has opened a total of 38 stores in 2012.

During May the company’s workforce grew 8.8% to 15,534. Its hiring pattern included a 23.6% increase in non-store selling personnel, an additional 11.2% in selling personnel, a 7.1% increase in distribution personnel, and a 10.1% gain in manufacturing personnel. ©2012 GlobalFastenerNews.com
