Price Gains Drive Grainger Growth in October
Grainger reported sales increased 6% in October, including four percentage points from price, one percentage point from volume and one percentage point from sales of hurricane-related products.
October sales in the U.S. gained 4%, including a four percentage point gain from price, one percentage point from sales of hurricane-related products. Offsetting those gains was a one percentage point decline in volume.
A summary of U.S. sales includes the following sales gains:
Light manufacturing rose in the low double digits.
Heavy manufacturing was up in the high single digits.
Commercial rose in the mid-single digits.
Government and retail rose in the low single digits.
Contractor and reseller were down in the low single digits.
Natural resources were down in the mid-single digits.
Sales in Canada rose 16%, including an eight percentage point gain from volume, four percentage points from currency exchange, two percentage points from price and two points from sales of seasonal products “due to the unusually cold weather in Western Canada.”
Sales in Asia, Europe and Latin America increased 12%, including 10 percentage points from volume.
The sales growth in October follows 8% revenue growth in the third quarter of 2012.
Q3 daily organic sales for the quarter increased 8% — 4 percentage points from volume and 4 percentage points from price. Third-quarter operating earnings fell 16% to $254 million. ©2012 GlobalFastenerNews.com
