Two automotive fastener manufacturers who subsidiaries of Japanese companies are expanding in Indiana – aided by tax breaks.
Key Fasteners Corporation is nearly doubling its 82,500 sq ft Indiana plant with a $1.6 million expansion. Key also will install $8 million in equipment.
Key supplies fasteners to Honda and other automakers. Key, a subsidiary of Sato Rashi Co. Inc. of Japan, manufactures fasteners for engines, brakes and fuel systems.
The 39,000 sq ft, $1.6 million addition will allow Sato Rashi to transfer some production from Japan to the U.S.
The Berne, IN, city council approved $57 million in tax breaks for three Berne employers for equipment and building expansion.
“We’re fortunate,” executive vice president John Johnston told Journal Gazette reporter Sherry Slater. “We’re very busy.”
Key – headed by president Yoshio Jiganu and vice president Elaine Twigg – employs 87 and will add 10 workers at a median salary of $37,400.

Sunright Doubling Square Footage
Based on Toyota Camry and Corolla sales, Sunright America will invest $34.7 million to expand its Indiana automotive fastener manufacturing facility. Sunright will be hiring 150 employees within two years.
Sunright will add 176,000 sq ft and 160,000 sq ft plants on its 33-acre property in the Woodside Industrial Park in Columbus. The first production line is expected to be operational by spring of 2014.
Currently Sunright employs 200 making five million nuts, bolts and specialty fasteners daily in its 322,000 sq ft. plant.
Sunright America was founded in 2002 as a joint venture owned 95% by Sugiura Seisakusho Co. Ltd. and 5% by Rightway Fasteners.
Yoshiyuki Ota is president and CEO; Kenta Takagi, sales director; Noah Barrow, purchasing manager; Mark Capps, manufacturing manager; and Adrian Ungureanie, quality assurance manager.
