MacLean-Fogg Component Solutions Expands Machining Capabilities
MacLean-Fogg Component Solutions expanded the Fastener Components division’s manufacturing capabilities by acquiring CNC and multi-spindle screw machines for the company’s facility in Mundelein, IL.
“These investments expand MFCS’s ability to provide technologically advanced fasteners and engineered component solutions to our customers in the following industries: automotive, heavy-duty truck and trailer, industrial engine, off highway, recreational vehicle, military, defense and industrial,” stated company president Duncan MacLean. “The new investments allow us to expand our product lines in valves, sleeves, fittings, pintles, shafts, small gears and fasteners.”
Applications include automotive and heavy truck transmissions components (plugs, valves, and dampers), automotive safety components (for braking, seat belts and air bag systems), sensor components (housings, bodies) and engine components (for air and fuel systems).
Fastener Components general manager Christopher Martens added: “This expansion in our ability to provide a wide range of net shape and near net shape products allows us to further assist our customers, helping them realize efficiencies and cost savings. Initial customer response has exceeded expectations.”
The new state-of-the-art CNC and multi-spindle screw machines have the capacity to work with material that has a body diameter of 1.750″ (44.45mm), and 14″ (355.60mm) length enabling machined products with body diameters of .250″ – 1.500″ (6.35mm- 38mm), body height of .200″ – 1.750″ (5mm – 44mm), and lengths up to 3.00″ (76.2mm).
Additionally, new external threading capabilities allow for threading of body diameters of .250″ – 2.625″ (6.35mm – 66.675mm), a body height of .200″ – 1.750″ and 2.375″ (60mm) length.
The TS16949 and ISO14001 certified MFCS Fastener Components Mundelein facility manufactures over 600,000,000 internally threaded fasteners per year for automotive and other industries. Fastener materials include low and medium carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, copper and alloys.
Products include Clinch-Lok, Step-Lok, Sta-Tite, prevailing torque nuts, and cold formed specials. Capabilities include cold heading, thread tapping, nylon insert assembly and crimping, deflection/staking, the ability to support a wide range of coatings, manufacturing of aluminum fasteners, and other non-standard materials, and the design and manufacture of non-standard “specials.”
MFCS manufactures highly engineered fasteners and specialty metal and plastic components at 14 U.S. and European facilities. Customers include automotive, heavy truck, aerospace, appliance, wind power and mining. MFCS is a division of MacLean-Fogg Company. ©2013 GlobalFastenerNews.com
