EU Mulls Renewing Tariffs on Chinese Wire Rod

The European Union may renew antidumping duties on Chinese wire rod, according to the Official Journal of the European Union.

In early August the EU initiated a review on the possibility of duties as high as 24%. A review request was lodged on April 29, 2014, by the European Steel Association (‘Eurofer’) on behalf of producers representing more than 25 % of the total Union production of wire rod.

The reviewed products include bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coils, of iron, non-alloy steel or alloy steel other than of stainless steel originating in the PRC (‘the product under review’), currently falling within CN codes 7213 10 00, 7213 20 00, 7213 91 10, 7213 91 20, 7213 91 41, 7213 91 49, 7213 91 70, 7213 91 90, 7213 99 10, 7213 99 90, 7227 10 00, 7227 20 00, 7227 90 10, 7227 90 50 and 7227 90 95.

The AD review will keep existing duties, imposed in 2009, in place for up to 15 months.
