Loose Axle Nut Promps Dodge Ram Recall

Chrysler Group is recalling almost 288,000 Dodge Ram 1500 pickups after concluding that the model’s rear axle pinion nut has a tendency to loosen, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). More than 250,000 of the recalled vehicles are registered in the U.S.

The NHTSA investigation, which began in June, found at least 15 cases of seizing and detaching rear axles.

Vehicle owners affected by the recall are encouraged to visit a dealer for a free installation of a retention feature to the pinion nut.

Similar problems prompted Chrysler to recall 370,297 vehichles in February 2013.
