STAFDA’s Congressional Fly-In Features Issues Prep

Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association members can meet with congressional offices in Washington DC during the third congressional Fly-In June 3-4, 2015.

The Fly-In is designed to meet with members of Congress and staffers on key issues affecting the industry, learn about key issues affecting the industry and develop relationships with elected officials.  

Upcoming issues before Congress include:

 Small Business Tax Relief Act (HR 636) – Would allow businesses to expense up to $500,000 in property, equipment and computer software.
Greater Opportunities for Small Business Act (HR 4093 / 113th Congress) – Would set aside 40% minimum of federal contracts for small businesses.
Qualified Research Tax Credits (HR 880 and S537) – Small businesses could take tax credits for qualified research.
Small Business Regulatory Flexibility Improvement Act (HR 527) – Would require federal agencies to analyze proposed rules for impact on small businesses.
Reauthorization on funding for road, bridges and transit. 

STAFDA has partnered with Advocacy Associates, a Washington lobbyist group, to schedule at least three Capital Hill meetings for participants. 

Association members may participate in multiple states/districts sessions. Constituents from same states/districts will be grouped together for meetings.

Stephanie Vance of Advocacy Associates will conduct a May 13 webinar to prep STAFDA members for the Fly-In. In Washington, Vance will follow up with a Wednesday evening training session. Chad Moutray, chief economist for the National Association of Manufacturers, will speak at a Thursday breakfast before STAFDA members meet in legislative offices.

The registration form asks if the STAFDA member has any personal relationships with members of Congress and what they feel key issues are: Domestic economic policy, energy & natural resources, EPA regulations, healthcare costs, foreign affairs, labor relations and taxation.
