A former inspection manager who claims General Motors Corp. ignored serious fastener defects in its vehicles has sued the automaker, according to the National Post.
The lawsuit filed by 20-year GM employee Courtland Kelley asserts that GM ignored complications with clamps and screws, including loose gas line fasteners that could cause fuel spills.
The lawsuit, filed in Detroit, claims GM professed concern but intentionally sidestepped potentially lethal critical safety fastener issues, the Post reported.
According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, GM recalled more than 200,000 vehicles in August for faulty fuel filter fittings that posed fire hazards. The autos included the Chevy Trailblazer and GMC Envoy.
GM declined to comment on the suit. \FastenerNews.com
