Emhart Teknologies announced that its second annual Create the Future design contest will be held Sept. 2 through Nov. 14, 2003.
The first design contest was extremely rewarding for us as an engineering-driven company, stated CEO Paul Gustafson. Based on the overwhelming success of the first contest, we decided to make it an annual event.
Emhart received over 1,100 entries from engineers, students, academics and the general public during the first national product design competition. Frederick Vreeman of Orlando, FL, was awarded a Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle for his low-friction rotary pinion gear set design.
Top prize for the contest is a new Prius or $20,000 cash. Other prizes include a Segway Transporter or enrollment for two at the U.S. Space Camp program.
The contest has three categories: everyday products; safety; and transportation.
