After a strong performance in 2004, Danaher”s Tools & Components segment, including fasteners, reported sales dipped 1% to $1.29 billion in 2005, but operating profit edged up $1 million to $199.3 million. The U.S. accounted for 86% of segment sales, while Europe added 3% and Asia totaled 6%. R&D expenditures in the Tools & Components segment grew 25% to $12 million for the year.
Overall sales at Danaher rose 16% to $7.98 billion during 2005, while profit jumped 20% to $897.8 million. Geographically the U.S. accounted for 53% of Danaher revenue.
Danaher is best known for its Sears Craftsman tools and accessories and Veeder-Root leak-detection systems.
In the fastener industry Danaher is known for West Hartford, CT-based Holo-Krome, which has manufactured socket screws and other fasteners for over 70 years. The tools and components segment, which contributes 16% of overall revenue, includes Danaher Hand Tool Group, Matco Tools, Jacobs Chuck Mfg., Delta Consolidated Industries, Jacobs Vehicle Systems and Hennessy Industries.
Danaher operates 204 manufacturing and distribution locations worldwide, including 111 facilities in the U.S. The Tools and Components segment utilizes 37 sites around the world.
Brothers Steve Rales and Mitch Rales own about 30% of Danaher stock.
