Frederic Booth Powers Jr., the retired chairman and president of Powers Fasteners Inc., died December 20, 2005, at his home in Larchmont, NY, at the age of 72.
Powers started in the fastener industry in 1958 with the Rawlplug Co, a company founded by his father. Under Frederic Powers the company expanded in construction and plant maintenance markets and added manufacturing facilities in Michigan, Indianapolis and Chicago; acquired a Canadian firm; and established 28 regional sales locations. In 1995 the business name was changed to Powers Fasteners Inc. as part of international expansion plans and facilities were opened in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Southeast Asia.
A native of the Bronx, Powers was active with numerous Westchester County charities and on corporate boards.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Virginia Van Deventer; four sons active in Powers Fasteners: Jeffrey Powers, president; Christopher Powers, CEO; Stephen Powers, vice president, MIS; and Frederic Powers III, vice president/materials; and 13 grandchildren.
