SHOW NEWS: Southwestern Expo October 14

The Southwestern Fastener Association Fall Conference & Expo 2000 will be October 12-15 at the Wyndham Greenspoint Hotel in Houston.\
Conference sessions will be on Friday and Saturday mornings, and the trade show will be Saturday afternoon.
Business columnist Mike McCann will speak on �Opening the Door to the Key Decision Maker� on Friday. McCann publishes �Elert,� a web letter for business development and customer service.
The Friday program includes a plant tour of Walker Bolt Mfg. Co. and its sibling company, Ameritech Fastener Manufacturing, in the same building. Walker manufactures fasteners up to four inches in diameter.
Walker/Ameritech general manager Tim Malone said the tour gives an introduction to petrochemical industry and aerospace fasteners.
The tour includes hot headers, hot forging presses up to 20 ft tall, multi-blow, machining, cold heading, demonstration of cut threading and roll threading, heat treating and lab testing.
On Saturday Jay Hebert, senior vice president of sales at Porteous Fastener Company, will speak about his career transition from manufacturing to distribution and trends in supplies from Asia, followed by human resources consultant Tom Potter.
The Southwestern Expo is held every other year and alternates between Houston and Dallas.
Saturday breakout sessions will be presented by Applied Bolting Technology Products, Semblex Corporation, Continental-Aero Locknuts, FastenerExchange.com, Simpson Strong-Tie Co. Inc. and Emhart Fastening Teknologies.
