McLean Named ATF President

Porter McLean is the new president of ATF Inc., CEO Don Surber announced.

McLean, the current chairman of the Industrial Fasteners Institute, was promoted from vice president of sales & marketing. He has held senior management roles in engineering and operations during his 19 years with ATF.
After earning a degree in civil engineering at the University of Kentucky, McLean’s first fastener job came in 1973 with the Shakeproof Division of Illinois Tool Works in his hometown of Russelville, KY. There he met Don Surber who later acquired ATF and has twice been IFI chair. McLean first joined ATF in 1981. He was with FPM Commercial Heat Treating from 1993-94 and MacLean Fogg Co. from 1994 until returning to ATF in 1999. E-mail: PMcLean@atf-inc.com

ATF was founded in 1946 in Chicago’s West Side stockyards as a supplier of surplus World War II military fasteners. Today ATF has three business units: Assembly Solutions provides thread formers for plastics, steel and light alloys; Precision Components , which manufactures metallic components for automotive systems, including safety critical transportation systems such as braking and steering; and Integrated Components. which produces integrated fastener assemblies and mechanisms primarily for airbags and interiors. ATF also has two joint ventures: Asyst Technologies LLC in Kenosha, WI, with EJOT GmbH of Bad Berleburg, Germany, which has high speed automated assembly, flexible manual assembly and injection molding for the automotive industry; and Rifast Systems LLC, a 50/50 joint venture with RIBE-Verbindungstechnik GmbH of Schwbach, Germany.
