Roseman, Taylor Lead NFDA

John Wolz

Joel Roseman is the new president of the National Fastener Distributors Association and Roger Taylor vice president/president-elect. \
Roseman, of Canton, MA-based Arnold Industries, succeeds Bryn Tuttle Stock, Spencer Products Co., Twinsburg, OH.
Char Cooper of Cable Tie Express, Noblesville, IN, is the new associate chair; and Tim O’Keefe, G.L. Huyett, Minneapolis, KS, is associate vice chair. Cooper succeeds Jeff Hepner, Telefast Industries Inc., Berea, OH.
Roseman started in the fastener industry by accident in 1964. As a Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute engineering student he set out to interview with steel companies, including Standard Press Steel. But what he thought was a steel maker was actually the fastener manufacturer best known today as SPS Technologies.
Roseman went on to work for Harvey Jacobson, where he was general manager of Penn Jacobson and Pawtucket Screw Co.
At Rensselaer, he had met David Hirsch and in 1975 he joined Hirsch at Pawtucket Fasteners as vice president of sales. Pawtucket acquired Bell Fasteners in 1976 and is now Vertex Distribution. Roseman was the NFDA associate chair in 1996.
In 2004 Roseman became a distributor by joining Arnold Industries as executive vice president. E-mail: jroseman@arnold-ind.com

Taylor is vice president for operations at Assembly Component Systems based in Lenexa, KS.
Taylor was in the paint industry prior to beginning his fastener career in 1979 as the Omaha branch manager for RB&W. He moved to Kansas City to join Special-T-Metals in 1990. Special-T-Metals later became Simco and was acquired by Lawson Products in 1999. Subsequently Simco was renamed Assembly Component Systems or ACS. E-mail: rtaylor@acssimco.com
Cooper started in the fastener industry in 1992 as a rep for VH Sales Company. She soon discovered cable ties through representing a domestic manufacturer and in 1995 Cooper opened Cable Tie Express as a distribution center. E-mail: char@cabletieexpress.com
New distributor board members are: Matt Cordova, Cordova Bolt, Buena Park, CA; Wendy Rose, Blue Chip Engineered Products, Cincinnati, OH; and Raul Torres, Action Threaded Products, Countryside, IL. The new associate board member is Nilo Urbani, Nylok Corp., Macomb, MI.
The NFDA reported 121 distributor companies and 102 associates totaling 223 members. The NFDA gave $11,550 in scholarships to 19 students in the past year.
Bill Derry announced that the NFDA is considering ways to create quality benchmarking by confidentially collecting data on such quality indicators as wrong part shipments. The goal is to improve the process of procurement, Derry explained.
The next NFDA meeting will be October 24-26, 2007, in Chicago. For NFDA information contact executive vice president John Hausoul. Tel: 312 527-6671 Fax 312 673-6740 E-mail: nfda@nfda-fastener.org Web: nfda-fastener.org 2007 FastenerNews.com
