ASQ Marks 40 Years of Quality Certifications

John Wolz

The American Society for Quality is marking its 40th year of certifying quality professionals.

Since 1968, ASQ has certified more than 160,000 professionals in a diverse range of industries. Certification, as defined by ASQ, recognizes that an

individual has demonstrated a proficiency within, and a comprehension of, a specific body of knowledge at a point in time.

The most popular certification is still the CQE Certified Quality Engineer, followed by auditor and Black Belt certifications.

Most certifications are in manufacturing, but certifications are increasing in the service sector and outside the U.S. Healthcare

professionals and educators at the K-12 and university levels are interested in certifications.

A survey conducted by Quality Progress magazine shows that U.S. quality engineers with ASQ CQE status earn an average US $3,718 more than their counterparts without a CQE certification. Web: asq.org/certification
