The Swiss branch of the Würth Group is investing over EUR 10 million to modernize its 2003 warehouse and logistics in Arlesheim, Switzerland. Construction should be completed by summer 2018.
Packages and pallets with assembly and fastening material, hand tools and power tools, chemical products, and workwear are sent from Arlesheim across all of Switzerland. In 2016, around 386,500 packages and 8,385 pallets, corresponding to a total weight of 4,796 tons, were shipped by the end of November.
Managing director Marc Baumgartner said a container shuttle is being installed for approximately 18,000 containers, and the picking and conveyor technology is being renovated.
“In the future, it will be possible to process more orders in a shorter period of time. As a result, orders that are received in the warehouse late in the afternoon will be processed on the same day and the customer will receive the items as early as the following day.”
Roughly 200 workers are employed at Würth AG Switzerland in Arlesheim, while approximately 400 Würth employees work as salaried sales reps throughout the country.
At the end of 2016, Würth Russia opened a logistics center in St. Petersburg. The new building, located in an industrial park on the outskirts of St. Petersburg, is 14,000 square meters, including a 1,000 square meter chemicals warehouse and 2,000 square meters of office space. From this site, the company can supply customers all over the northwest region of the country. Web: würth.com
