ASSOCIATIONS: NFDA Creates “International” Membership Category

The National Fastener Distributors Association is adding an “international” membership category in recognition that “this is a global business now,” president Wendy Rose announced at the fall meeting.

Rose emphasized that the board voted “unanimously” to accept international members. The NFDA is “facilitating business relationships many of our members were already developing.”

Leaders of the NFDA and the European Fastener Distributors Association and Taiwan Fastener Trading Association have been attending each other’s meetings and exchanging information.

Now NFDA members will be able to join those organizations too.

The international cooperation has led to a “global platform for fasteners evolving,” Rose said. The NFDA will be the sole North American representative on the global platform.

Rose said NFDA is looking to diversify to increase non-dues revenue.

Rose acknowledged it has been a tough economic year for NFDA and described some of the cuts the board has been making.  Both the autumn 2009 and spring 2010 meetings are one day shorter.  Both breakfast and lunch at the fall meeting were working sessions.

The spring 2010 meeting had been scheduled for a Palm Springs resort, but has been changed to April 14-16, 2010, at the Omni La Mansion del Rio in San Antonio. ©2009 GlobalFastenerNews.com
