SHOW NEWS: NIFS/West Moving to Sands for 2011
The National Industrial Fastener Show/West will move to the Sands Expo center for 2011, show management announced.
The 15th annual West show will also move to a Wednesday/Friday format – October 19-21, 2011. Conferences and an opening reception will be on Wednesday, a full show day on Thursday and half day on Friday.
The original Sands Hotel opened in 1952 as the seventh resort on the Las Vegas strip. It was once owned by Howard Hughes and was famous for its Copa Room.
The hotel closed in 1996 to make way for the 4,049-room Venetian, which opened in 1999.
The Sands convention center opened in 1990 with 2.25 million sq feet of space. Sands Expo is located between the Venetian and the 3,066-suite Palazzo hotel, which opened in 2007.
Show management said it will offer three tiers of official hotel room rates in adjoining or close by hotels.
In addition to the Venetian and Palazzo, nearby hotels include: Encore, Treasure Island, Mirage, Wynn, Harrah’s, Embassy Suites, Westin, Fairfield Inn, Imperial Palace, Best Western, Tuscany, Flamingo, Marriott Residence Inn, Caesars Palace, Trump, LaQuinta, Ballys and Super 8.
Sands Expo also is near Fashion Show Mall with its 250 stores.
The Wednesday to Friday format will allow show participants to return home Friday or remain in Las Vegas for weekend entertainment.
Show management cited more weeks between the October 2011 dates and the holiday season for following up leads than the November dates of the first 14 years of NIFS/West, plus better weather as reasons for the earlier schedule.
Show manager Susan Hurley acknowledged that show participants have been asking for the more central location for years. Since 2007 NIFS/West has been at Mandalay Bay on the south end of the famed Las Vegas strip. From 1997 through 2006 the trade show was at Paris/Ballys.
The October dates also move the show away from the November 13-15, 2011, Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association 35th annual convention in San Antonio. ©2010 GlobalFastenerNews.com
