The Würth Group was awarded the UN Global Recognition Award “Good Practices of Employability for Workers with Disabilities” for its commitment to people with disabilities in the “Management” category.

“The holistic commitment of the Würth Group to strengthening the participation and equality of people with disabilities is so impressive because they are based on examples of good international practice in the world of work and not limited to one country,” the award jury stated.

The Hotel-Restaurant Anne-Sophie, in which people with and without disabilities work together, was highlighted. Also noted was the Markus Würth Endowed Professorship, which deals with pediatric neuro-orthopedics and cerebral palsy, as well as institutions for disabled people in Greece, Kyrgyzstan and educational institutions in South Africa.

In addition, Würth has been supporting Special Olympics Germany since 2008, the German organization of the world’s largest sports organization for people with mental and multiple disabilities.

“This commitment is due to Carmen Würth,” the company stated. “She has made it her life’s mission to bring together people with and without disabilities and to create understanding and acceptance.”

The award was presented on the occasion of the United Nations International People’s Disability Day (IDPD). Since 1992, the IDPD has been committed worldwide on 3 December each year. The theme of this year’s IDPD was “empowering people with disabilities and ensuring inclusion and equality”. The aim of the second edition of the award is to give international recognition to the successful initiatives of companies that are positive examples of the inclusion of people with disabilities in the labor market.
