Fastenal reported fastener sales fell 22.5% in April, compared with a 10.1% rate of decline the previous month.  Sales of other products (excluding safety supplies) dropped 10.1% in April.

Overall sales rose 6.7% to $491.5 million in April, while daily sales totaled $22.3 million during the month.

Sales in the U.S. gained 10%, while sales in Canada and Mexico fell 19.7%.

By end market, sales to manufacturing customers decreased 15.6%, and sales to non-residential construction customers were down 15.5% in April.

The company’s workforce decreased 3.2% during the month to 21,587 employees.  Distribution personnel shrank 12.1%% to 2,602 while manufacturing personnel fell 4.8% to 660 workers. 

In the opening quarter of 2020, fastener sales declined 2.6% to $449.7 million (32.9% of overall sales).  Web: Fastenal.com
