Bulten spent SEK 6 million (US$650,000) to acquire a 27% interest in TensionCam Systems AB, Fastener World reports.

Gothenburg, Sweden-based TensionCam develops sensors for clamp force monitoring in screw joints. Its sensors are “basically normal” bolts, nuts and screws with a small cavity bored into the fasteners.  The clamp load is measured by using a special sensor module to make images of a precision turned circular pattern in a cavity of the fastener.  Web: TensionCam.com

“The acquisition of a share of TensionCam is in line with Bulten’s strategy of being a technology leader in fasteners and being able to offer customers unique and sustainable functionality, and to facilitate profitable growth even outside the automotive industry,” stated Bulten CEO Anders Nyström.

TensionCam collaborates with industrial partners and research institutes to conduct R&D in the field and already owns several patents. TensionCam’s technology is not currently commercialized or industrialized, but Bulten’s cooperation aims to accelerate the completion of its sensors.

“The in‐depth collaboration with Bulten will help TensionCam with the integration of sensor technology into complete screw joints and with the industrialization necessary for commercial success,” says Jonas Nilsagård, CEO of TensionCam.

The investment marks Bulten’s second acquisition this year.  In March, Bulten acquired PSM International for $24.5 million.  Founded in 1931, PSM supplies fasteners to international markets, primarily automotive, with 350 employees and production facilities in China, Taiwan and the UK, as well as distribution centers in 22 countries.  Web: psminternational.com
