Groov-Pin Corporation is marking its 95th anniversary during 2021.

Founded in 1926 by E.H. Schniewind, an inventor and developer of patents, the original location was in Long Island City, NY, where the patented press-fit fastener called the “Groov-Pin” was developed.

Some of Groov-Pin’s original products, including the Type 1 Groov Pin are still being manufactured.

In the mid-90s, Groov-Pin acquired the Speedserts line of self-threading inserts to complement its existing threaded inserts. Groov-Pin also acquired Precision Turned Components to produce parts for the telecommunications/RF connector market.

Today Groov-Pin manufactures threaded inserts, grooved pins and precision turned components at plants in Rhode Island, Georgia and New Jersey.

Groov-Pin emphasizes lean manufacturing and the state of Rhode Island recognized the plant as a “model of lean manufacturing.”

In 2015 Groov-Pin started its “GP Fit” wellness program for employees. This year Groov-Pin is challenging each plant to walk a total of 950 miles between April 22 and May 20 to mark the 95th anniversary. The “Walk to Wellness” is the employees’ favorite GP Fit program.
