Dörken Corporation USA is marking its 30th anniversary with a “summer of innovation.”

Dörken, an operating unit of Herdecke, Germany-based Dörken MKS-Systeme, manufactures corrosioin protection coatings.

Dörken was named one of Germany’s top 100 innovative companies for the second time by the Vienna University of Economics & Business.

“Good ideas that go on to achieve market success don’t just happen,” director Karl Dörken said. The company has built an internal culture of innovation.

Dörken has an innovation manager – Jan Mielke – and an “Inno-Club,” which includes individuals from all departments. Every four weeks the club reviews ideas from employees – including both concrete suggestions and abstract ideas that may have little to do with current products.

Dörken predicts that by 2017 20% of sales will come from products not currently on the drawing board.

This summer Dörken is reaching out to users and suppliers through an international O&S trade fair in Germany for surface treatments & coatings and a Tech Day for 50 Italian automotive industry experts.

The focus of the conference near Milan was on threaded fastenings. The program included Dörken representatives talking about zinc flake systems and Volkswagen giving the manufacturer’s perspective of current specifications; and Agrati gave the screw manufacturer’s perspective.  Primat and Fosfantartiglio portrayed the use of MKS systems and Schatz demonstrated practical examples.

Dörken manufactures corrosion protection coatings under the Delta-MKS trademark for parts including fasteners, springs, bracket clips and stamped parts. Dörken has vehicle manufacturers and Tier One approvals and DIN, EN, ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001 certifications. Dörken USA, opened in 2001 and headed by vice president Frederick Schultz, is based at 11200 Cedar Knoll Dr. (P.O. Box 429), Grass Lake, MI 49420-9622.
