Bolted Joint Problems Prompt Mercedes Truck Recall

Daimler AG will recall 80 units of its Mercedes-Benz trucks in China starting November 10, the Beijing Times reported.

The recall affects 51 units of the Mercedes-Benz Arctos 934 produced between February and May 2010, and 29 units of the Mercedes-Benz Atego 970 manufactured from February to May 2008.

In the Arctos 934, an investigation found a nonconforming contact surface between the floating bridge hub and brake disc mounting bolts, which may loosen the bolts and reduce the locking force of the brake disc.

In the Atego 970, the problem relates to an undersized contact face between the support rail and mounting bolts on the fuel tank, which could become dislodged should the rail crack or break off.

Daimler said it would re-tighten the mounting bolts on the Arctos trucks and replace the support rail on the Atego trucks at no charge. ©2010 GlobalFastenerNews.com
