Acument Regains Footing As Economy Rebounds
Acument Global Technologies has decided to keep its headquarters in Michigan, though the company will relocate corporate offices from Troy to Acument’s manufacturing facility in Sterling Heights.
The $1.92 million project, which affects about 30 employees, will lower operating costs for Acument.
“With the resizing of our business in 2010, it was no longer appropriate to maintain a headquarters office separate from our operations,” communications director Timothy Weir told FIN.
Acument reportedly looked at facilities in California and Illinois before deciding to stay in Michigan, encouraged by a sizable tax credit from the state.
Acument recently announced the reopening of its Fenton, Michigan, facility in early 2011 to serve as the company’s North American Technical and Processing Center.
Troy, MI-based Ring Screw LLC, a subsidiary of Acument, will expand its operations.
Acument received an $874,651 tax incentive from Michigan Economic Development Corp. for the expansion, which is expected to create 150 new jobs over three years at the facilities in Fenton and Grand Blanc Township.
“(Acument) will generate about one-third of our total sales in Michigan this year, so the state is fundamentally important to us,” Weir told FIN.
