ASTM Changes Name

John Wolz

ASTM changed its name to ASTM International to “reinforce the openness of the ASTM standards development process to worldwide input as well as reflecting the global application and use of ASTM standards.”
ASTM membership totals more than 30,000 from 100 countries.
“From its inception, the ASTM method of developing standards has been based on consensus without borders,” president James Thomas said.
To facilitate global input into the standards development process, West Conshohocken, PA-based ASTM uses online standards development forums, balloting and minutes.
Founded in 1898 as the American Chapter of the International Association for Testing & Materials, it was most recently known as the American Society for Testing & Materials. E-mail: service@astm.org Web: astm.org 2001 FastenerNews.com
