Acklands-Grainger Acquires Quebec Distributor
Acklands-Grainger Inc. has acquired the assets of Baie-Comeau industrial distributor Fercomat Inc. for an undisclosed sum. Acklands-Grainger expects an incremental sales contribution of approximately $3 million from this acquisition over the next 12 months.
“We will leverage our combined expertise to offer local customers – such as mining, hydroelectricity and aluminum industries – access to the broad array of products and services they need to help keep their facilities running and their employees safe,” said Acklands-Grainger president Sean O’Brien.
Acklands-Grainger has served Quebec for more than 74 years through 14 branch locations, a French website and catalogue with more than 120,000 products.
The acquisition of Fercomat is the company’s third in Quebec in the past three years.
“We are thrilled to be joining Canada’s leading industrial, safety and fastener distributor and know our customers will benefit from Acklands-Grainger’s broad product offering, industry-leading supply chain and commitment to service,” said Pierre Dassylva, President, Fercomat.
Parent company Grainger reported daily sales grew 10% in August. Nearly all of that was organic growth — 9% — which included 8 percentage points from volume, 3 percentage points from price and 1 percentage point from sales related to Hurricane Irene, partially offset by a 3 percentage point decline from 2010 oil spill related sales.
Sales in the U.S. rose 8% during August, while sales in Canada jumped 21%, boosted by a 14% gain in local currency.
In early September Grainger acquired Netherlands-based fastener distributor Fabory Group for about $344 million. The acquisition gives Grainger a presence in the world’s largest MRO market with an established business. ©2011 GlobalFastenerNews.com
