Severstal-Metiz, one of the largest Russian wire manufacturers, acquired UK wire manufacturer Carrington Wire Limited, from Acertec Holdings Ltd., Fastener & Fixing Europe reported.
CWL has three UK sites. The Cardiff Wales plant supplies cold heading wire. Another produces nails. In 2005 Carrington produced 144,000 tons of wire and wire products, generating UK�77 million (US$134.7 million) sales and a 30% share of the UK market.
Severstal-Metiz has three production sites in Russia and one in Ukraine. It has 31.5% of the Russian market and is the country”s largest exporter of wire. Total production is 960,000 tons with 250,000 tons exported.
Severstal-Metiz is part of the Severstal Group, a Russia-based industrial group with assets in the steel, mining, automotive, machinery, transportation and other business. The group employs 150,000 people, operating more than 30 plants in 15 regions across Russia and in the U.S. and the EU. Sales in 2004 totaled US$7 billion (Russian Rubles 193.9 billion).
Severstal-Metiz general director Olga Naumova said the purchase of CWL is” the next step in realization of global development strategy according to which the company plans to become the leading company in the Europe and the CIS on manufacture and sale of wire and wire products.”
Previous CEO David Crimp resigned will stay with Acertec. Severstal-Metiz business development director Sergey Solousov will be CWL chief executive. \ �2006 FastenerNews.com
