PPG Industries acquired coatings manufacturer Vanex Inc.
Founded in 1964, privately-held Vanex supplies Plascron and Breakthrough brand water-based industrial coatings for metal, plastic and wood in the structural steel, building systems, construction and fabricated metals industries. Vanex operates a plant in Mount Vernon, IL, and employs 20 people.
The acquisition expands PPG capabilities and technology in the PPG TrueFinish industrial coatings business, general manager Keith Prins said.
PPG’s Fastener Coatings
John Zbiegien, global business development manager for coatings, estimated PPG sells $12 million to $18 million in fastener coatings annually.
Fastener coatings are developed in a PPG technical lab in Springdale, PA.
“We are finding our customers are looking for sourcing globally. The PPG finishes in North America are the same as in South America, Eastern Europe or Asia,” Zhiegien told FIN.
PPG has long supplied coatings for the North American automotive industry. The Troy, MI-based automotive team works with automakers on “designs down the road,” Zbiegien said. PPG also has introduced finishes to Honda, Nissan and Toyota. Presentations have been made to European automakers.
PPG supplies coatings, paints, chemicals, optical products, specialty materials, glass and fiberglass. PPG has 150 manufacturing facilities and equity affiliates and operates in more than 60 countries. PPG is headquartered at One PPG Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15272.
