Acument Completes Camcar Transfer to Saturn Fasteners; Boeing Supplier Award Announced
Aerospace fastener manufacturer Saturn Fasteners Inc. received a 2009 Boeing Performance Excellence Award. Burbank, CA-based Saturn Fasteners received the award for the second consecutive year by maintaining a minimum Silver composite performance rating for each month of the 12-month performance period, from Oct. 1, 2008, to Sept. 30, 2009.
Boeing recognized 486 of its suppliers in 2009 who achieved either gold- or silver-level results. Saturn Fasteners is among 358 suppliers to receive the Silver level of recognition.
“As industry conditions began to shift in 2009, Saturn Fasteners employees stayed focused on delivering solid quality and service performance for their customers,” said Michael Dorah, Acument VP of operations and general manager of Acument Aerospace.
Saturn Fasteners, an Acument Global Technologies company, has been a Boeing supplier since Saturn was founded in 1989.

In March 2008 Acument re-entered the aerospace fastener market by opening its Camcar Aerospace production complex occupying two renovated facilities in Rockford, IL. Acument subsequently announced the closure of those facilities in November 2009, less than two years after returning to the “Fastener Capital of the World” with plans for $70 million in aerospace production by 2010.
The downturn in order volume was reportedly fueled by delays in Boeing aircraft programs and a decline in the business jet market. Camcar employed 50 workers.
Acument transferred the Camcar tooling and machinery to Saturn Fasteners, which it acquired after launching Camcar Aerospace.
“The Saturn Fasteners facility in Burbank is now our sole plant dedicated to manufacturing fasteners for aerospace customers and will serve as our platform for expanding our presence in the market,” Acument communications director Tim Weir told GlobalFastenerNews.com.
“We remain in the process of integrating into the Saturn plant the manufacturing and process capabilities from our now-closed Camcar Aerospace plant in Rockford, Illinois. That integration has been closely coordinated with our aerospace customers and will be completed early this year.”
Weir said Saturn Fasteners is a “strong and expanding facility.” ©2010 GlobalFastenerNews.com
