Acument’s North American Technical & Processing Center Damaged by Fire

A fire damaged Acument Global Technologies’ North American Technical and Processing Center in Fenton, MI, the Tri-County Times reports.

The fire reportedly broke out on July 31 around 7:30 a.m in the ventilation system near the facility’s heat treatment area. All of the more than 20 workers at the facility exited safely.

“The fire chief said… the area became too hot, which caught the roof on fire,” the Times reports.

“Firefighters cut about a 30-foot wide hole through the roof to extinguish the smoldering materials.”

The 88,000 sq ft facility operates two 3,000-pound-per-hour furnaces to treat parts for the majority of Acument’s North American plants.

Facility engineering director Robert Waligora told the Times that all other operations at the center are back online, with repairs to the heat treating area slated for completion by week’s end.

Acument reopened the Fenton facility in January after mothballing it in April 2009 during the height of the recession. The facility handles some of Acument’s processing needs, including heat treatment, sorting parts and other services that were previously done out of state.

Since February Acument has grown from 30 workers to 44, with more than 50 expected by year’s end. The company reportedly is adding jobs more than 50% faster than it expected. The facility workforce is projected to top 100 in 2012. ©2011 GlobalFastenerNews.com
