Anixter Breaks Ground on LEED Headquarters

Anixter is constructing a new LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building as part of its corporate headquarters campus in the Chicago suburb of Glenview.
Construction of the new facility commenced at a ground breaking ceremony on Friday, August 17, with occupancy slated for April 2013.

“Our new facility will support our continued growth plans while offering more convenience for our employees, partners and customers,” said Bill Standish, Executive Vice President Operations at Anixter. “The new facility helps to improve operational efficiency by bringing together employees to one centralized corporate campus.”

Anixter will invest more than $10 million in this new property, creating or retaining 125 jobs.

According to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, “The state’s targeted investment package, estimated at $2 million, includes Economic Development for a Growing Economy (EDGE) tax credits, which are based on jobs and distributed over a period of 10 years and a training grant through the Employer Training Investment Program (ETIP). The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) will administer the package, which will help create 66 new jobs and retain 60 jobs.”

Anixter said it will work toward LEED certification at the completion of its construction, part of its corporate effort to “control and reduce the impact associated with its targeted environmental aspects of energy, waste, materials and natural resources.”

Anixter employs more than 8,000 workers worldwide, including more than 1,000 employees in the U.S.

In July the company reported six-month sales gained 2% to $3.1 billion, with operating income up 4% to $176.6 million and net income rising 12% to $99.6 million.

In June Anixter Fasteners announced its £450,000 (US$702,000) independent testing laboratory in Gloucester, England, is now online. ©2012 GlobalFastenerNews.com
