The German Fastener Association – Deutscher Schraubenverband e.V – appointed Dr. Stefan Beyer as general manager, succeeding Frank Naumann.

Naumann has held the position for 10 years and will retire June 1.

Upon finishing Technical University of Darmstadt Beyer began in fasteners as R&D manager for ABC Umformtechnik Geyelsberg. He was chair of the association’s technical board and worked on several fastener technical committees for VDA and DIN.

The German Fasteners Association represents 46 manufacturers of mechanical fasteners and 64 associate members which supply equipment, production tools or offer services for heat-treatment and surface treatment. The association promotes common economic, functional, technical and scientific interests of its members.

The 46 manufacturer members have approximately 8,000 employees. Two-thirds of the companies have less than 100 employees, only 11 % more than 500 employees.

Approximately half of the companies are located in the southern Westphalia area of Germany between the rivers Ruhr and Sieg.

The association estimates its members manufactured 702,000 tons in 2008 valued at Euro 2,831,000 (US$3.9m)
Of that 541,000 tons totaling Euro 2,524,000 (US$3.4m) were exported to European countries.

In 2008 Germany imported 664,000 tons (Euro 1,772,000 (US$2.4m).

The German association is member of the European Industrial Fasteners Institute, WSM Federation of Steel and Metal Forming Industry. The association conducts research through the Institute für Werkstoffkunde of the Technical University of Darmstadt.
