Birmingham Fastener Acquiring Threaded Operations of Vulcan Steel
Birmingham Fastener & Supply agreed to acquire the specialty threaded products operations of Vulcan Steel Products.
The acquisition between the two Alabama-based fastener manufacturers includes inventory, raw material, work in process and production equipment used to manufacture anchor bolts, U-bolts, eye bolts, bent bolts and single-end and double-end threaded studs.
The equipment at the VSP facility in Pelham, AL, is being moved to BF’s manufacturing division in Birmingham.
BF has a 35-year history of producing standard and made to print threaded fasteners. BF’s plans include expanding and upgrading its current threading, bending, assembly and packaging capabilities to offer a broader product line.
“We believe this move will better equip both companies to support their target products, customers and industries,” Birmingham Fastener stated in the acquisition announcement.
Birmingham Fasteners was founded by Howard Tinney in 1980. Today BF manufactures and distributes T-head bolts, anchor bolts, cross brace rods and structural and non-structural components for the metal building, steel construction, energy, utilities, aerospace, OEM and industrial markets.
Birmingham Fastener has manufacturing operations in Alabama and distribution centers in Alabama, Florida, Texas, Nebraska, Connecticut and Wisconsin and is headquartered at 931 Ave. West, Birmingham, AL 35214. Tel: 205 595-3511 or 800 695-3511 Web: BhamFast.com
Vulcan manufactures threaded products including threaded rod, anchor bolts, u-bolt and specials. Founded in 1978 as the Vulcan Threaded Rod Co. to manufacture threaded rod, Vulcan began its operations in downtown Birmingham marketing primarily to smaller distributors who were experiencing back orders of up to six months and needed a supplier to deliver faster. Vulcan opened with only four Teledyne/Landis threaders, then added a Litton/Reed B112 within their first six months of operation.
By the mid 1980’s, Vulcan added anchor bolts, u-bolts, eye bolts and specials and became Vulcan Threaded Products. In 1997 Vulcan expanded into the cold finish steel bar market in small diameter rounds and turned and polished bar. Also in 1997, Vulcan added ASTM A193 B7 threaded rod and commercial heat treating for long bars.
Today Vulcan Steel Products has three divisions – Vulcan Threaded Products, Vulcan Heat Treating, and Vulcan Cold Finished. At Vulcan the steel products facility is over 400,000 sq ft of manufacturing and warehouse space.
Vulcan is located 10 Crosscreek Trail, Pelham, AL 35124. Tel: 205 620-5100 or 800 633-4726 Web: vulc.com
