Boeing recently met with numerous Rockford, IL, companies that could soon be doing business the aerospace giant.

“There’s unique capabilities in machining, there’s capabilities in fastening, so I think there’s an opportunity to grow at Rockford,” stated Stanley Deal, Boeing’s Vice President of Supply Chain Management.

Deal expressed surprise at the number of other Rockford area companies that make parts for the aerospace industry.

“What I learned today is there’s really many, many other small suppliers that are aerospace capable.”

That may spell good news to many Rockford manufacturers who are trying to benefit from the double-digit growth the aerospace industry expects by 2020.

Rockford was once the traditional home of the U.S. fastener industry until fastener manufacturing moved west from Rockford … to Japan in the 1980s, Taiwan in the 1990s and then China. ©2010 GlobalFastenerNews.com
