Cardinal Fastener Cuts 12% of Workforce

Cardinal Fastener & Specialty Co. has laid off eight employees — about 12% of its workforce, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. The news comes less than two weeks after U.S. President Barack Obama visited the factory in the days before his inauguration, touting Cardinal’s addition of two new jobs in its wind turbine division.

“(Cardinal) President John Grabner said he cut 12% of the work force because orders have decreased significantly for the industrial products that still account for 80% of his business,” writes Robert Schoenberger of the Plain Dealer.

“The wind business is good, but they have slowed down also,” Grabner was quoted as saying. 2009 FastenerNews.com
