China Fastener Exports Continue Fall

China exports of steel and copper fasteners fell 48% to 130,000 tons of steel and copper fasteners in June, valued at US$190.36 million, Xinhua News Agency reports.

During the first six months of 2009 China exports of steel and copper fasteners slipped 45% to 700,000 tons, with the value declining 43% to US$1.12 billion.

In January the European Union adopted antidumping 85% duties on certain fasteners from China after concluding that Chinese producers had flooded the market with fasteners at 30% to 50% below European prices.

China responded by filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization over the tariffs, which have caused its steel fastener exports to plunge. ©2009 GlobalFastenerNews.com
