China’s 2011 Fastener Exports Up 13.9%; Taiwan Rose 11.4%

Taiwan fastener exports rose 11.4% over 2010 reaching 1.42 million tons for 2011. Exports totaled US$3.97 billion (+23.61%), Taiwan-based Fastener World magazine reported.

The top five destinations of Taiwan exports were the U.S., Germany, Holland, Japan and the UK. The record high export volume growth was mostly due to the increasing exports to the EU, which has been Taiwan’s largest export market, Fastener World reported.

Taiwan’s import market was small with only 25,000 tons.

• Japan: Fastener production was down 3.7% to 2.76 million tons for 2011, with the value slipping 1.4%.

Export volume declined 1.8% to 305,000 tons while import volume rose 10.8% to 218,000 tons. Import value rose 11.8%.

Both the volume and value of fastener imports to Japan during 2011 set records.

• China:  Total fastener production rose 9.7% from 2010 to 6.8 million tons, with 2.6 million tons being exported.

Exports were up 13.9% and export value jumped 27.6% to US$4.664 billion. 

Last year was the first year in China’s 12th Five-Year Plan.

The fastener import volume edged up 0.4% to 264,000 tons.

• Hong Kong: Fastener exports were down 6% from 2010 to 30,700 tons for 2011. Fastener World attributed the decline to the U.S. and European economies and the Euro debt crisis.

Hong Kong’s export value was up 1% from 2010 to US$374 million. The import volume was 45,500 million tons, up 3% compared with 2010, but down 25% compared with 2009.

Hong Kong imported fasteners value was US$325 million, down 2% compared to 2010. 

• South Korea: The fastener output of South Korea in 2011 reached 820,000 tons with the sales of US$2.87 billion, showing a slight growth compared to last year, Fastener World reported.

The result was attributed to the production growth of the domestic CBU vehicles.

The import value was US$440 million, up 13.5% compared to 2010 while the export value was US$480 million, up 50.1% compared to 2010.  ©2012 GlobalFastenerNews.com and Fastener World
