City Adds $134k to Reliant Fastener Cleanup
The city council in Rock Falls, IL, added $134,000 to continue cleaning up the former Reliant Fastener site, the Sauk Valley newspaper reports.
The funds will pay to demolish a former boiler room by removing asbestos and scrap metal. The city, which has owned the property since 2006, plans to redevelop the 17-acre site.
The abandoned Reliant Fastener factory burned to the ground on December 28, 2008. The downtown factory was engulfed in flames by the time fire crews arrived. Fourteen fire departments were called in to keep the blaze under control.
The plant was shuttered in 2002. ©2009 GlobalFastenerNews.com
