College Hosts Aerospace Fastener Lab for High School Students

El Camino College Compton Center hosted a demonstration of its new aerospace fastener lab for local high school students.
 

Industry experts demonstrated machinery and discussed careers in aerospace fastening technology, HubCityLivin.com reported. 
 

Students received hands-on experience performing basic machine operation with instructors’ guidance.
 

Alcoa Fastening Systems, Johnson Gage Inc., PB Fasteners, Shafer Machinery Inc. and TurnCorp Inc. donated equipment to the Southern California center, including a cold header machine, Traub automatic turning machine, optical comparator, centerless grinder, and miscellaneous tools and measurement instrumentation.
 

El Camino College started its Aerospace Fastener Boot Camp in 2008. 
 

The college is working with industry partners to develop curriculum for a credentialed Aerospace Fastener Manufacturing Program.
 

The college’s Compton Center offers transfer and degree courses, career and technical education, and associate degree or certificate programs.
