Collins Keynoting STAFDA Convention
John Wolz
Author and columnist Jim Collins, whose “Good to Great” book has sold 2.5 million copies, will be the keynote speaker at the 30th annual convention of the Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association November 13-15, 2006, in Las Vegas.
Collins is the author of “Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap & And Others Don’t.” The book has been translated into 32 languages.
“Collins will look at personnel using the analogy of a bus,” according to STAFDA’s preview. “He believes management should first get the right people ‘on the bus,’ the wrong people off the bus (even if they are family members), then the right people in the right seats.” Too much emphasis is placed on motivating otherwise unmotivated or undisciplined people. Collins believes businesses need to ask themselves what they are passionate about, what is the company best at and what drives its economic engine. Technology is not “the be all” and must be carefully selected. Too many companies seek a “quick fix” to success. E-mail: info@stafda.org Web: stafda.org 2006 FastenerNews.com
