Jim Derry of Field Fastener Supply Company returned to the National Fastener Distributors Association board of directors and the board elected Derry vice president and treasurer.
Derry previously was on the NFDA board from 2003 to 2006. As vice president, Derry is slated to become president in April 2010.
He succeeds James Spillman of Creative Assembly Systems, who is not currently with a fastener company.
Derry has 18 years experience in the fastener industry and is general manager of Machesney Park, IL-based Field Fastener.
Derry envisions broadening the geographic scope of the NFDA.
“The fastener industry continues to operate on an increasingly global basis, and the NFDA needs to find ways to enhance our members’ ability to compete in a more complex global environment,” he said.
A half-dozen years ago 80% of Field Fastener’s business was within 200 miles of its suburban Rockford, IL, headquarters. Today Field has satellite facilities in five states and supplies fasteners internationally after an Illinois customer asked for its VMI service to a plant in Malaysia.
While the NFDA has lost some members as a result of the current business climate, Derry is optimistic that this is a temporary situation.
“We will continue to use input from our members to drive meeting agendas and address their business needs,” Derry said. “It all boils down to helping our members more effectively manage, grow and generate profit in their businesses.”
“We are glad to have such a familiar face back on the board,” NFDA president Wendy Rose said. “This official position is a reflection of his leadership in the industry.”
His brother, Bill Derry, was the 1997-98 NFDA president.
Founded in 1968, the NFDA has 220 distributor and associate members. ©2009 GlobalFastenerNews.com
