Attala Steel factory in Mississippi

EDSCO Fasteners owner MiddleGround Capital has acquired Attala Steel Industries, marking MiddleGround’s second investment in industrial businesses serving the power and transmission industry.

Founded in 2008, Kosciusko, MS-based Attala manufactures steel foundation products for utility-scale solar power infrastructure, with a structural steel mill in Mississippi and both fabrication operations and internal galvanizing capabilities in Kosciusko and Hillsboro, TX.

“We expect to integrate Attala and EDSCO into one company supplying the needs for steel foundational products for power generation, transmission and distribution markets” stated MiddleGround partner Scot Duncan.

Attala founder Bill Atwood will serve on the combined company’s board of directors, while EDSCO CEO Kevin Heskett, who replaced Richard Butler, is expected to be named CEO of the new company.

MiddleGround partner John Steward noted that investments in power generation and transmission are “mission-critical infrastructure projects” strengthen the U.S. power grid, “which has been determined by executive order of the President of the United States to be a national priority.”

“The United States power generation and distribution infrastructure is aged and in critical need of investment for repairs and upgrades,” Stewart added.  “In addition, new green technologies are now gaining momentum and the race to generate clean power, supported by federal, state and local governments, is an exciting area to invest.”

MiddleGround acquired anchor bolt manufacturer EDSCO in January 2020 LFM Capital, which had owned the fastener company since January 2017.  LFM acquired EDSCO from Validor Capital, which has owned EDSCO for the previous five years.

In January 2019, EDSCO acquired Indiana Anchor Bolt Inc., which manufactures structural steel products for the utilities, construction and transportation end markets.

Founded in 1985, Denton, TX-based EDSCO supplies anchor bolt cages for the T&D utility market, as well as telecommunications and transportation.  Products include anchor cages, 18J rebar bolts, smooth bar bolts, bolt hardware, plates and other fabricated products.  EDSCO operates five facilities in Texas, Utah, North Carolina, Tennessee and Indiana.  Web: EDSCO.com
