Fastenal Investing in Holo-Krome
Plans include expanding into specials
Supported by the financial muscle of one of the biggest names in fasteners, socket head fastener maker Holo-Krome plans to expand its manufacturing scope to include cold headed specials for industries requiring “Made in the USA” products in critical applications.
The West Hartford, CT-based fastener manufacturer was acquired from Danaher by Fastenal, which promised to grow the Holo-Krome business.
“With new ownership backing us, we now have more resources available to aggressively pursue growth opportunities,” said Holo-Krome Director of Operations Tim Thompson. “This will allow us to fill gaps in our current offering with new product categories and potentially new materials – and continue to do it all right here in the U.S.”
Holo-Krome envisions becoming the dominant supplier of special fasteners and a key supplier of military grade fasteners, Thompson said. All Holo-Krome fasteners are DFARS certified, and in October Holo-Krome qualified as a QSLM Class 2 provider of fasteners to the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA).
“While other U.S. manufacturers are shutting down or moving operations offshore, we’re looking forward to growing the Holo-Krome brand with all of our distribution partners and taking our heritage of Made in the USA quality to a new level,” added national sales manager Charles LaBove.
Fastenal’s decision to acquire socket head screw product manufacturer Holo-Krome “is in line with the distributor’s long-established philosophy of providing customers with all the fastening products they need,” Fastenal CFO Dan Florness stated around the time the deal was finalized.
Fastenal executive VP Cory Jansen oversees the Holo-Krome business, which added one facility and about 90 employees to Fastenal’s operations.
Founded in 1929, West Hartford, CT-based Holo-Krome began by manufacturing socket screws by the then-new technique of metal forming, or heading, rather than machining. Today Holo-Krome manufactures grade 12.9 socket screw products. ©2010 GlobalFastenerNews.com
