Following two straight months of decline, U.S. fastener exports and imports saw double-digits gains in January, Zepol reports.
Exports of U.S. produced fasteners grew 16% to $282.2 million in the opening month of 2013, bolstered by strengthening demand in Canada and Mexico, according to trade data released by the U.S. Census Bureau. That gain followed December’s 13% decline in exports.

The top five consumers of U.S. fastener exports in January were Canada (up 23% month-to-month to $87.5 million); Mexico (up 32% to $86.8 million); the UK (up 14.4% to $14.3 million); China (up 5.3%  to $9.98 million); and France, which consumed $8.2 million in U.S. fasteners in January.

Fastener imports to the U.S. also grew in January, rising 14% to $392.5 million after an 11% drop the previous month.

The top five countries importing fasteners to the U.S. in January were Taiwan (up 19% to $128.6 million); China (up 9.5% to $84.7); Japan (up 3% to $57.6 million); Germany (up 36.3% to $23.8 million); and Canada, which exported $21.1 million worth of fasteners to the U.S. in January.

This data was derived from Zepol’s trade intelligence tool, TradeView™, using U.S. import and export trade data released by the U.S. Census Bureau in the Merchandise Trade dataset.
