The former office manager of a fastener business in North Charleston, SC, was arrested after allegedly embezzling more than $100,000 over several years.

Christine Wingard, 54, is charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent, the Post & Courier reports. She had worked as an office manager at Warren Fastenings South Inc. since 2006.

“An affidavit filed in the case states that Wingard’s responsibility at the company was to pay vendors and manage the daily business,” writes Melissa Boughton of the Post & Courier. “She was authorized to reconcile the books and create checks to pay the vendors, but was not authorized to sign them.”

She was fired June 2 for purchasing a personal Costco membership using company funds without authorization, according to an incident report from the North Charleston Police Department.

A subsequent audit of the company’s books revealed that “between Dec. 31, 2011 and May 27, 2014, Wingard had written company checks out to herself, her husband, and to various companies to pay her personal bills.” Most of the signatures on the checks were forged, the affidavit states.

Wingard is charged with stealing $104,234.70.
