Faulty Fasteners Slow Boeing Production

Boeing faced further slowing of its strike-plagued commercial airplane production while it tracks down 346,000 faulty fasteners supplied by Cordant Technologies, according to Aviation Week & Space Technology.
About 20 new 737s, 757s and 777s are using 3/16-inch fastener collars made from a different aluminum alloy, 7050, than the 2024 that was specified, according to Boeing. Although the parts do not present a near-term safety-of-flight risk, they are prone to cracking and corrosion and eventually must be replaced, according to Aviation Week.
Cordant reportedly used the wrong material after receiving an improperly identified shipment from one of its suppliers.
The aircraft in use were quickly identified. Boeing will not deliver a new aircraft until it is FAA-compliant.
